Time on the Lake

All about enjoying my time on the lake

Time on the Lake
We spent 5 days living on a houseboat… and brought our fishing boat along with us 🎣 The houseboat became our basecamp while we explored the Kawartha Lakes and Trent Severn Waterway, checking out different spots and chasing walleye, perch, and muskie. The walleye and perch fishing was unreal, and we even caught some awesome bluegill along the way. The Kawarthas are known for muskie too, so we spent some time casting for them whenever we could. @EganHouseboatRentals made the whole experience super easy with a full walkthrough and training before we headed out. To confirm you don’t need a boat license to drive the houseboat but you do need to complete the Rental Boat Safety Checklist provided by Egan. All of this is just a couple hours from the GTA. This is only part of our adventure… stick around for the full boat tour and the rest of our trip 👀 #fishing #houseboat #walleye #musky #fishinglife
Never done a fishing trip like this… 🎣
We spent 5 days living on a houseboat in Ontario... using it as our floating basecamp to explore the Kawartha Lakes and fish the Trent-Severn Waterway. For this trip, we went out with Egan Houseboat Rentals on Pigeon Lake We brought our own fishing boat along so we could explore the surrounding lakes and back bays to chase walleye and musky. Along the way, we ran into a few unexpected problems, caught some surprising fish, explored the locks and waterways around the Kawarthas, and enjoyed some incredible early fall weather. And of course, we had to do some catch and cooks along the way... including fresh walleye banh mi made right on the houseboat. From fishing for walleye to chasing the fish of 10,000 casts, exploring the Trent-Severn Waterway, visiting Bobcaygeon, cooking on the boat, and simply enjoying a few days on the water, this was one of the most unique Ontario adventures we've ever had. If you're looking for an Ontario houseboat rental or a different way to explore the Kawartha Lakes, definitely check out @EganHouseboatRentals Thanks for watching and spending some time on the lake with us! 0:00 Setting Sail on a Houseboat Adventure 0:40 Arriving at Egan Houseboats 2:35 Navigating the Waterway 3:31 Setting Up Camp for Night One 8:15 Learning from Our First Night 12:35 Scouting for Musky and Walleye 14:22 Found Some Walleye! 24:02 Fishing Gear Breakdown 26:55 Cooking Our Catch 30:10 A Detailed Tour of the Seahawk 42:34 Amazing Walleye Fishing 51:21 Final Adventures and Reflections

Building a beginner musky combo 🎣 Using bass gear for musky isn’t something I’d recommend. These fish and the baits we’re throwing can put a lot of stress on your gear, and having the right setup helps you land and release them safely. I picked up my Daiwa Prorex Muskie Rod + Lexa 300 at @SAILPLEINAIROUTDOORS and used their Best Price Policy to get the price matched. SAIL will match a lower price from a Canadian competitor on eligible items. Check their policy for full details. Now I just need to catch my first musky… 👀 #MuskyFishing #Musky #MuskieFishing #FishingOntario #OntarioFishing #SAIL #FishingGear #BeginnerFishing

The best breakfast you'll ever catch... 🎣
We’ve never done a trip quite like this before… for the next 5 days we’ll be living in a houseboat 🎣 We’ll be exploring the Kawartha Lakes area, towing our fishing boat alongside us, checking out the locks and a few different spots along the way. You don’t need a boat license to drive the houseboat. @EganHouseboatRentals gives you a full walkthrough and training before you head out, so once you’re on the water, you’re free to explore throughout the Trent-Severn Waterway All of this just a couple hours from the Greater Toronto Area This is just day 1… stick around for the full adventure 🎣 #fishing #houseboat #adventure #fishinglife

How to catch more walleye: simple mistakes to avoid 🎣 6lbs clear fluorocarbon, a jig and crawler/minnow, medium light rod, and the Garmin Striker 4 are some of my essentials for walleye trips I picked up all the gear I’m using @S@SAILPLEINAIROUTDOORS Some of the simple setups and strategies I always go back to when the bite gets finicky. #fishing #walleyefishing #fishingtips #walleye #fishinglife
How to Catch More Walleye (when the bite is tough) 🎣
We had five walleye fillets ready to go for lunch, but somehow a few raccoons managed to get into our fridge overnight and steal every single one. So we had to get back out on the water and catch some more before we could make lunch 😂 Luckily, we eventually got enough for one of my favourite catch-and-cooks: crispy battered walleye fish & chips. And yes… the triple-cooked chips were 100% worth the effort.

They stole all of our fish… 😡😱 We spent 8 days living on the lake in Ontario cottage country. We packed up the boat and headed to a boat-access-only cottage, battled heavy rain and wind to get there, and spent the next few days chasing walleye and some unexpected fish species. We even had a few BIG fish make their way into the boat… before a group of raccoons decided to steal all of our fillets from the fridge... #fishing #catchandcook #walleye Making tacos with the fish we catch We were camping on an island site for 3 days with plans to make tacos with the fish we caught. The first fish was a sucker... and we didn't really want to it that. So we kept searching and eventually got on our favourite fish to eat... The walleye
Don't eat the first fish you catch... 🎣
We spent 3 days camping and fishing on an island in Ontario crown land, taking the boat out to find a spot to set up camp and catching some fish for dinner. It was just me, Cass and the dog, and the goal was pretty simple... get out on the lake, enjoy some time in the Canadian outdoors, and hopefully catch enough fish to make some good food. We explored the lake, did some fishing, dealt with a few challenges that come with camping in the middle of nowhere, and finished the trip with a catch and cook right at camp. And of course, we were hoping to make some fish tacos with whatever we could catch. If you enjoy Ontario fishing, Canadian camping, boat camping, crown land camping, or just getting outside and exploring, hopefully you enjoy coming along for the trip! #fishing #camping #ontario #canada #outdoors 0:00 Arrival and trip planning 1:06 Setting up camp 1:45 Evening fishing session 14:36 Campfire and sunset 16:28 Morning fishing session 20:40 Catch and cook 23:30 Final fishing highlights 25:40 Outro and trip recap
